One of the most impressive transformations at Birmingham City F.C. since the stadium improvements in the summer of 2024 is the creation of the Box 2 Box bar—a fan-favourite space that wasn’t even part of the original plans. This new concourse bar has quickly become a highlight of the stadium, offering fans an exceptional experience and showcasing top-tier bar design.
The Unexpected Beginnings of Box 2 Box
After the success of our 2023 fit-out of the Alliance Suite and reception area, part of Tom Wagner’s first wave of improvements as the new club owner, we were invited to continue working with Birmingham City F.C. As we explored the stadium, preparing for the next phase of enhancements, we discovered a hidden space beneath the Kop stands, previously unknown to many, while searching for a new keg room. Immediately, we recognised its potential as an ideal location for a grand, fan-accessible bar.
Planning and Prep: Transforming a Hidden Space into a Vibrant Concourse
Transforming this underutilised area into the Box 2 Box bar required extensive groundwork. Since this part of the stadium had been untouched for years, our team began by conducting soil tests and structural assessments. We then removed nearly 1,000 M3 of soil, a challenging task due to limited access beneath the stands.
Safety was a priority in this confined space, with careful management of air quality and dust. With strategic planning and attention to detail, we completed this prep work ahead of schedule.
Because this space wasn’t originally designed to function as a hospitality area, we had to create entirely new architectural plans and rework existing services. Once finalised, we laid the concrete flooring, setting the stage for what would become one of the longest stadium bars in Europe.
Expanding the Vision: Enhancements Made Possible by Box 2 Box
The creation of the Box 2 Box bar was integral to other stadium improvements. With the new concrete flooring in place, we were able to construct mezzanine levels above the bar, effectively expanding the square footage of two hospitality spaces on the first floor. This enhancement increased the capacity of the Sponsors’ Lounge and added a new storage room. Additionally, the Boardroom benefited from this transformation, with the introduction of three new private dining spaces, each accommodating 12 guests.
A Fan Favourite: Box 2 Box Sets a New Standard
Once the foundational work was complete, the interior installation was straightforward, leading to the creation of an expansive, welcoming space. Now, with open access from both sides, Box 2 Box offers fans an unparalleled stadium bar experience, seeing thousands of fans pass through each game. As one of the standout achievements in Birmingham City F.C.’s latest stadium upgrades, it’s easy to see why this impressive bar has become a fan favourite before it even officially opened.
With the Box 2 Box bar, Birmingham City F.C. now offers a vibrant, high-quality concourse bar that enhances the overall matchday experience and sets a new benchmark in stadium design and fan engagement.
