Dawnvale has worked with the Nutter family, owners of Nutters restaurant in Rochdale for a number of years. Eight years ago, we helped Jean and Andrew Nutter to open their restaurant by providing our design and fit out services, so we were delighted to be invited back to give the space a refresh! Read on to find out what we did and see the new look Nutters after its makeover…
In January 2017 Jean called us and asked if we could revisit the restaurant to freshen up the interior. Eight years had passed since we first fitted out the award-winning venue, which sits in the grounds of Wolstenholme Manor, surrounded by six-and-a-half acres of beautiful rolling countryside.
When we first worked with the Nutters team, we provided new carpet, wallpaper, chairs and curtains. Jean wanted us to bring the restaurant up to date but reflect the traditional surroundings and classic food that celebrity chef Andrew Nutter is known for. The menu is a mouth watering mix of British classics, such as caramelised duck breast and rack of lamb, and the interior needs to match that quintessential, traditional selection.
With the challenge of creating a more contemporary interiors, while still remaining respectful to the history of the building laid down by Andrew and Jean, we got to work!
Timeframe
Nutters wanted to remain open during the works and, as the restaurant is closed on a Monday anyway, we were able to accommodate that wish. When the restaurant closed on a Sunday evening, the Dawnvale team were able to move in and work through the night, decorating all day Monday. By 6am Tuesday we were off site to allow for the restaurant to be reset. This continued for three weeks with decorating planned in three phases.
Carpet fitting took place during the daytime on Monday day, running into Tuesday. The restaurant closed to allow us to fit the carpet. On the Tuesday, we fitted the new curtains too.
We carried out the work over a six week period, allowing the restaurant to serve diners as usual over the Easter weekend.
Restaurant furniture
Nutters now has a refreshed, elegant range of Dawnvale restaurant furniture, including fixed and booth seating in the modern yet elegant Champagne Lounge and dining chairs, finished with bespoke upholstery in keeping with the style of the building and it’s beautiful surrounds.
Colour + texture
We again took inspiration from the location and referenced the 18th century manor house within the colours and textures chosen; a regal blue was used throughout, including in the plush carpeting and the rich, luxurious velvet curtains.
Luxury imported furniture
In any restaurant, the tables and chairs are almost as important as what’s on the menu! We provided a refined Italian chair, designed to complement the style of food and building perfectly, with a classic dark wenge finish with a silver faux.
Design
Before we started the refresh, the interior of Nutters was replete with an abundance of wenge timber. While this imparted a rich, cosy feel, our designers proposed lighter finishes to create a more modern space, right down to new wallpaper. This approach elevated the restaurant, completely changing the look and feel of the room.
The end result
The new look Nutters is a sublime dining experience, with an interior that is refined yet modern, perfectly in keeping with the sense of history and heritage that the manor house and sprawling views imparts, while also being the perfect backdrop to Andrew’s unique style of food.
